Ahead of the release of the Sugar Blade trio album there’s an exclusive chance soon on BBC Radio 3’s Jazz on 3 programme, presented by Jez Nelson, to hear a track from the album for the first time on national radio.
Drummer-composer-leader Steve Davis, also in conversation on the show, is joined, on this New York-recorded Babel records release, by Kris Davis, the Canadian avant piano star-in-the-making; and by Ralph Alessi, the trumpeter whose own album Baida was a firm highlight of 2013. Also on Monday’s show: pianist Alexander Hawkins, a member of Davis’ band Human, performs with his own remarkable trio drawn from a scintillating Cafe Oto gig recorded earlier this year.
