The winners of the 2015 Dankworth Composition prize have been announced and they are, in the small band category vibist Ralph Wyld for ‘Subterrranea’; while in the big band category Chris McMurran was the winner for ‘Continuum.’

Judged by Tim Garland, Frank Griffith and Nikki Iles the prize was established in 2007 and has been administered by The Worshipful Company of Musicians since 2011. The Royal College of Music Big Band under the musical direction of Mark Armstrong performed the winning pieces at a concert in the RCM’s Britten theatre last night. Wyld reacted to the news by expressing his pleasure and mentioning an upcoming gig: “I’m delighted to announce that I’ve won the Dankworth Prize for Composition 2015. My piece ‘Subterranea’ was awarded the prize in the small band category, and you can hear Mosaic play it live on 1 March in the “LUME presents” series at the Vortex.”

Last year the winners were Misha Mullov-Abbado in the big band category, and Andrew Woodhead in the small band.
