Brian Molley is to debut with his contemporary jazz and latin-flavoured quartet album Clock next month. Confirmed for a 14 October release on Molley’s own BGMM© label, it’s a set of eight original compositions of Molley’s plus standards ‘What’ll I Do’ and ‘Get Happy’, and was recorded in June at the Castlesound studio in Pencaitland. The Glasgow-based saxophonist, who also plays clarinet and bass clarinet on the album and arranged all the music on Clock, has performed as a member of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and with drummer Stu Brown’s Sextet, and Brown joins Molley on Clock, which also features pianist Tom Gibbs, who released his own album Fear of Flying last year [reviewed here www.marlbank.net/news/147-254], and scene veteran Mario Caribé on double bass and guitar. Clock is launched on 29 October at the Ramshorn Theatre in Glasgow, with further upcoming appearances including one at the Broadford Hotel as part of this year’s Skye Swing Jazz Festival on 3 November; and at the Blue Lamp in Aberdeen on 5 December.
