Sheffield’s weekly Wednesday night Jazz at the Lescar series has a big range of jazz and improv gigs coming on tap through the autumn and into the winter. The Lescar’s PRS New Music strand features Laura Cole and Metamorphic on 25 September, the Leeds pianist Laura Cole’s band having released their latest album Coalescence in June. October sees the piano trio of Dominic J Marshall on 2 October; drummer Ollie Howell, whose album Sutures and Stitches is about to come out, appears at the Lescar on 9 October. Then it’s Bad Ass Brass a week later; Joe Wright/Alice Zawadzki’s Nightjar (23 Oct, also part of The Lescar PRS New Music Series); trumpeter Andre Canniere on 30 October appearing with his hot band of guitarist Hannes Riepler (The Brave), pianist Ivo Neame (Yatra), bassist Ryan Trebilcock, and drummer Jon Scott. Into November it’s Skamel on the 6th; Trio Riot on the 13th (a PRS New Music Series gig); Karen Street’s Streetworks on 20 November; young award winning composer Tom Green and his septet on 27 Nov; and guitarist Nicolas Meier on 4 December.
