The MAC in Belfast is to host a concert by the Claudia Quintet, drummer-composer John Hollenbeck’s cutting edge conceptualist post-jazz New York band founded in the late-1990s. Hollenbeck is joined by bassist Drew Gress, vibes player Matt Moran, accordionist Red Wierenga and clarinettist/saxophonist Chris Speed for the gig in the Cathedral Quarter city centre venue. Hollenbeck is also a visiting professor of jazz for the 2013/14 academic year at the Royal Academy of Music in London. The Claudia Quintet has recorded half a dozen CDs, the latest of which is the Cuneiform album What is the Beautiful that featured guest singers Kurt Elling and Theo Bleckmann.The gig is on 24 November.
