Five new EST Symphony concerts are to be announced soon although as no UK or Irish shows are in the offing yet you’ll have to jump on a plane to Germany to attend the next concert, which is part of this year’s Enjoy Jazz Festival in Ludwigshafen on 3 November. The others will be in Scandinavia, Austria, and in Switzerland. As previously reported in marlbank the symphonic arrangements of the late Esbjörn Svensson’s music premiered at a Stockholm concert in June, five years after Svensson's death, and there have been additional concerts so far in Istanbul and Rotterdam. Different pianists have played at the concerts, joining Dan Berglund and Magnus Öström of EST and a specially selected symphony orchestra. Finn Iiro Rantala performed at the first concert in Sweden; while Jacky Terrasson and Michael Wollny played at the second in Turkey. Yaron Herman and Martin Tingvall then took part in the third performance in the Netherlands. EST manager Burkhard Hopper says: “There is talk about recording the programme later this year,” but adds that there’s “nothing concrete yet.” EST Symphony has a new website and its address is www.est-symphony.com
