There’s a feast of top improvising action at Cafe Oto coming up, with the Sun Ra Arkestra in residence at the east London club from 23-27 August, and then Dutch drummer Han Bennink takes to the stage of the Dalston improv spot for a two-day residency in September. The first night of the Bennink shows on 4 September sees the drummer in duo with Pat Thomas while other formations on the night include the John Coxon/Thomas/Bennink Trio; Bennink performing solo; and in a quartet with Coxon, Thomas, and Terrie Ex. The following night sees three line-ups: the Terrie Ex/Han Bennink Duo; Ex with Mary Oliver and Han Bennink; and Mary Oliver and Alex Ward joining Bennink and Ex. Later in the autumn Marc Ribot comes to Oto for two nights on 15-16 October followed by Colin Stetson from 27-28 October; and then it’s the cult Australian improvising trio The Necks for three nights from 4-6 November.
