Italian jazz piano star Stefano Bollani is to release a new duo album with Rio-born bandolim player Hamilton de Holanda called O que será for ECM on 26 August, among the Munich label's new upcoming season of releases. O que será includes a homage to Astor Piazzolla, and material by Ernesto Nazareth, AC Jobim, Chico Buarque, and Pixinguinha as well as some original pieces. The label’s late-summer offerings also include, released on the same day as the Bollani/de Holanda album, Lua ya by highly rated South Korean singer Yeahwon Shin in a trio with pianist Aaron Parks and accordionist Rob Curto. Described by the label as “a gentle album of songs and lullabies”, Lua ya was recorded last year in the US. Accordionist Rob Curto has worked with Yeahwon Shin on an earlier occasion but Parks, best known for his work with Terence Blanchard and for his Blue Note album Invisible Cinema, is a relatively new collaborator of the singer’s. Carla Bley’s album Trios, with Andy Sheppard and Steve Swallow, will be released on 9 September, an album of vintage Bley compositions this including ‘Utviklingssang’ and ‘Wildlife’ dating back to the 1980s; ‘Vashkar’, even further to the 60s; and ‘The Girl Who Cried Champagne’, a more recent work of the distinguished composer and bandleader’s. Finally, and due to be released under the auspices of the label’s New Series on 23 September, is violinist Michelle Makarski and pianist Keith Jarrett’s recording of Bach’s Six Sonatas for Violin and Piano. Makarski and Jarrett’s musical association dates back to their recording of ‘Elegy for Violin and String Orchestra’ and ‘Violin Sonata’ on Jarrett’s Bridge of Light album in 1993. Yeahwon Shin above
