This autumn is to see the release of French New Wave a new 5-CD box set of original film soundtracks with a strong jazz flavour. To be released by Jazz on Film Records the set has been compiled and annotated by Selwyn Harris, producer of the acclaimed Beat Square and Cool and Jazz Noir sets and is issued with a 60-page essay the London-based jazz writer has authored. The new box gathers together for the first time seven recordings made between 1957 and 1962, and comprises music from No Sun in Venice featuring music by the Modern Jazz Quartet; Lift to the Scaffold, with music by Miles Davis; Les Liaisons Dangereuses, with music by Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers; Des Femmes Disparaissent, with music by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers; Breathless, with music by Martial Solal; Un témoin dans la ville, with music by Barney Wilen; and Eva with music by Michel Legrand. The set is available via www.jazzonfilmrecords.com from September, and on general release the following month.
