A vault containing 60 years of mouthwatering jazz recorded by German broadcaster NDR is to provide the basis of a new series of archive recordings to be released this autumn on the Trier-based Moosicus Records, the label’s UK distributor Proper Note has confirmed. The first selection of albums will feature music by Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Stéphane Grappelli, the Modern Jazz Quartet, and Oscar Peterson. The broadcaster holds a staggering amount of jazz recordings from the Golden Age and beyond recorded in the studio and at concerts, more than 2,000 in all, and the new series, the NDR 60 Years Jazz Edition, features remastered recordings that have never before been released. The first two to be issued on 9 September, are the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet/Hans Koller New Jazz Stars album NDR Studio Hamburg 1953; and the Dave Brubeck Quartet’s February 28, 1958 Niedersachsenhalle Hannover 2-CD set. October will see the release of the Stéphane Grappelli Ensemble album NDR Studio Hamburg 1957 planned for a 7 October release followed by a Modern Jazz Quartet NDR Studio album to be released in November, and an Oscar Peterson Trio concert recording also scheduled for November.
