Rising star saxophonist Trish Clowes above appears on Saturday in Swanage

The three-day Swanage jazz festival begins later today, and there can’t be many festivals that run a steam train, surely? Swanage obliges this afternoon with a trip on the Purbeck Line to Harman’s Cross. First day performance highlights of the Dorset town's festival include the Steve Waterman septet in one of two marquee venues; and Bobby Wellins with Kate Williams in a local church. Tomorrow Gilad Atzmon and Jean Toussaint are big marquee draws, and look out too for BBC New Generation artist saxophonist Trish Clowes, who last year released the acclaimed And In The Night-Time She Is There, performing in the local Methodist church. On the final day Liane Carroll, Clark Tracey, Brass Jaw, Sons of Kemet, and the Kit Downes quintet should all make it a Sunday to remember in Swanage.
