The “marble city" of Kilkenny by the banks of the river Nore in the south-east of Ireland plays host to the Kilkenny Arts Festival from 9-18 August, with the former Charles Lloyd pianist Bobo Stenson, the Anthony Joseph Spasm band who have just released their latest album Live in Bremen, and Bassekou Kouyate and Ngoni Ba from Mali among the jazz and world music programme. The Stenson trio appear at St Canice’s cathedral on 13 August in a double bill with the duo of saxophonist Trgve Seim and accordionist Frode Haltli.
