Lee Konitz with pianist Dan Tepfer

Live in London alto sax great Lee Konitz’s new album has been confirmed by Whirlwind records for a 16 September release. The album was recorded in May 2010 at Pizza Express Jazz Club in London with the Chicagoan, who’s now 85, joined by pianist Dan Tepfer (Duos with Lee), bassist Michael Janisch, and long time Konitzian drummer Jeff Williams. Originally intended for a May release the slight delay notwithstanding is nevertheless a landmark release for the independent jazz label run by bassist Janisch. Over six hours of music were recorded at the live concerts in the Soho club with selections for the albums made from across all four performances. Konitz also plays soprano sax on a few numbers, Whirlwind says. SG
