WorldService Project have a new drummer, the Meshell Ndegeocello-inspired groove player Liam Waugh, who replaces Neil Blandford.  According to the band’s publicist Blandford “was also playing with another band and decided to focus there.” Waugh studied at the London College of Music and with the Drummers Collective in New York, and his recruitment comes well ahead of the launch of WSP’s latest album Fire in a Pet Shop in the summer. The prog-jazz outfit  are to appear at the Match & Fuse festival in Oslo next month in the Norwegian capital’s Sankt Hanshaugen Park, with Jaga Jazzist headlining. But before that there’s a gig at the Cut in Suffolk on 25 May and then Fire in a Pet Shop is officially launched in July. MB
