Latest in table tennis news... well not really however the ongoing moan in these pages about poor jazz coverage in big national print media (eg even The Guardian, The Observer, Telegraph usually getting the wrong end of the stick, FT, and The Times really the only ones even bothering), try this for size.

OK, they might have columns on the subject in print newspapers sometimes. They also have cavernous websites which have many silos including specialist blogs for all sorts, and sometimes jazz is snuck in online a bit. Ah great in theory that is more than before 1995 or whenever people began their epic online odysseys and took to the web like Ben-Hur at a stag do in Tallinn.

Reality bizarrely given the huge global appetite particularly live for jazz both at festivals and clubs is now a worse state of affairs: virtually extinct status coverage in print and in the music blogs online that the big brands have successfully created precious little there too to feed even a modest appetite for the subject.

The papers’ tendency is to focus first on rock, pop, hip-hop, “cheese” maybe nostalgia for Noddy Holder, and electronica in print is ridiculously now replicated online. We should all just realise this that big media whether in print or online is not really interested enough because their editors need their cultural compass reset to a time oh before 2015 and for music that does not necessarily need any lyrics.

If it was sports coverage we were talking about the coverage of jazz would equate not to football, rugby, cricket or even tennis but squash, table tennis, shinty, or non-league bog snorkelling.
