There is a remarkable supergroup – heads up – doing the rounds on the summer European festival circuit (clockwise from top left) not all dates in so far, Enrico Rava, the famed Italian trumpeter and his Polish equal the Komeda Astigmatic great Tomasz Stańko who turns 75 in July, plus free-jazz poet of the drums Detroiter Gerald Cleaver, Rava pianist Giovanni Guidi whose tender output as a leader on ECM has been among the best of Manfred Eicher’s hugely revered European jazz label in years, and on bass Reuben Rogers known for his work of some significance with Charles Lloyd and recently Yotam Silberstein. Billed as a “European trumpet legends” tour, MGM agency, looking after the band provide a suitable gloss: “This is no jam session or trumpet battle, but rather a profound exploration of the unique musical worlds of two of Europe’s greatest talents, an unpredictable mix of strong personalities whose ability to lead a group and tell a story through their horns is unsurpassed.”

Dates so far include festivals in Italy and Norway, including Molde, where Vijay Iyer is artist in residence
