Hugely cheered listening to punk jazzers TaxiWars’ latest assault on the senses, Fever.

The fiery Belgians, formed of the mercurial Waitsian singer and all round jazz fiend Tom Barman, best known for fronting Antwerp rock band dEUS, here once again alongside saxophonist Robin Verheyen, bassist Nicolas Thys and drummer Antoine Pierre, last year’s eponymous first album TaxiWars was a riot.

The band cite their influences as Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp and Charles Mingus and throw in a certain punk snarl and swagger for good measure to what they’re about. On the London scene if you’re into Andrew Plummer or Led Bib you’ll probably like them too.

Listen to the official audio for the Weill-like ‘Bridges,’ Barman channelling Jim Morrison more than effectively, the third track of Fever (Universal Belgium) above and catch the band at Latest Music Bar, Brighton on 26 October, and Servant Jazz Quarters, London on 27 October
