A mellower Bushman’s Revenge, perhaps. Or just that more intense without anyone feeling the need to burn down the house. The Nordic guitar/bass/drums trio are on inspired form guided by guitarist Even Helte Hermansen who teases achey blues-soaked lines out of McCoy Tyner’s ‘Contemplation’ to open this studio album recorded only in May this year.

The title means ‘Jazz From Memory’ and proves if nothing else that memory is very much a personal vision, this trio operating in edgy rock territory not a million miles away from some of Marc Ribot’s recent records.

With a cover of Albert Ayler’s ‘Angels’ and plenty of originals tucked in there’s a lot of tenderness from a band who have already released some seven albums and find new ways to tackle spiritual jazz and go that bit deeper.

Released on 16 September
