One of Ireland’s best known jazz musicians internationally, the Waterford-born jazz guitarist Louis Stewart, has died at the age of 72. Irish state broadcaster RTE tweeted news of his passing.

Over a long career Stewart played with Benny Goodman, George Shearing, Ronnie Scott, Tubby Hayes and Joe Williams, was a regular at Irish jazz festivals and clubs, and was admired for his lean bop and swing lines and elegant phrasing. He will be greatly missed by fans and his fellow musicians alike.
