Makes me think of the title track of Crescent, John Coltrane’s 1964 album. And Nat Birchall stands tall in this magical space.

A formidable deeply versed champion of spiritual jazz, this new album Creation is to be released in late-July by his label Sound Soul and Spirit Records and on it Birchall from his north of England base taps the most emotive side of Coltrane’s work drinking deep from its well as a first port of call and source of plenty.

Birchall is one of the UK’s most sincere and respectfully accomplished adherents of the core Coltranian sound that has inspired jazz listeners and changed people’s lives the world over for approaching 60 years since Coltrane’s first records. And 23 September this year marks 90 years since Coltrane was born, these sounds a serendipitous prelude. The eighth album from Birchall, listen to the third track ‘Peace Be Unto Us’ streaming above with more samples found here SG
