One of the big jazz-vocals events of the year in prospect, certainly possessing a definitive Golden Age Hollywood movie score retro sweep to it, new from Clare Teal, the sublime Twelve O’Clock Tales (Mud records) is now streaming on Bandcamp. CD release is this summer. The title takes a cue from Strayhorn classic, the incomparable ‘Lush Life,’ the seventh track on the album. Peggy Lee and Ella-influenced, Teal is accompanied by the Manchester-based classical orchestra the Hallé and also by a big band. Arrangements are by Guy Barker. Songs include ‘Secret Love’, ‘Feeling Good’, ‘The Folks Who Live On The Hill’, ‘I’ll Never Stop Loving You’, ‘Wild Is The Wind’, ‘It Might As Well Be Spring’, ‘Sans Souci’ and ‘Paradisi Carousel.’ SG
