If, like me, your piano trio ardour has dulled a little recently, still searching for a new trio to really get into, then an opportunity to hear lots of trios in the space of a week is hard to resist to lift listening routines out of a familiar pattern. (The wheel for me is turning already in this direction with recent discoveries including new German hopeful Julia Kadel and closer to home trios led by Sarah Tandy in residency at Servant Jazz Quarters.) And that opportunity is on the horizon once again this summer by the still relatively new Ronnie Scott’s Piano Trio festival running from 15-20 August, just the creative jolt needed in terms of variety and choice. Here’s the line-up just announced:
