Carla Bley in this video of a live club performance in Paris introduces in determined French the haltingly lovely title music, a story of addiction and recovery, from her new Manfred Eicher-produced album Andando El Tiempo on which she performs with saxophonist Andy Sheppard and her partner, erstwhile Impossible Gentleman, bass guitarist Steve Swallow to be released in the UK/Ireland on 6 May. Bley turns 80 on 11 May.

The album, a studio affair also partially inspired by Mendelssohn and the lyrical achievements of Bley’s Escalator over the Hill collaborator Paul Haines, was recorded in a Swiss radio studio where the beautiful Trios was also taped, and is dominated by a three-part opening suite, each part subtitled in Spanish.
