Polish media are reporting the death at the weekend of Janusz Muniak, the former Tomasz Stańko and Andrzej Trzaskowski sideman and owner of the club that bears his name in Kraków’s Old Town.

A recipient of the Golden Fryderyk [Polish grammy] award for lifetime achievement, Muniak (3 June 1941-31 January 2016) was Poland’s nearest equivalent to Ronnie Scott in that both played the tenor saxophone, had a modernist bebop-rooted style, and owned and ran their own jazz clubs.
