Blue Note records have announced details about their new signing saxophonist Logan Richardson.

Fellow Missourian, the  guitar great Pat Metheny, bassist Harish Raghavan from the Ambrose Akinmusire band, Selma soundtrack composer pianist Jason Moran also on Fender Rhodes and the Bandwagon drummer Nasheet Waits are all on Richardson’s album for the label, Shift. Waits goes back a long way with Richardson.

‘Mind Free’ from the new album is streaming on Spotify. There’s more label detail on the February release to be found on Discogs.

Kansas City-born Richardson started out as a leader with Cerebral Flow on the Catalonian label Fresh Sound New Talent released nine years ago, an album that had Waits at the kit. At the time of that release Greg Osby, who also mentored Jason Moran early in his career, commented: “Logan possesses a vocal-like flexibility and dexterity unlike any alto saxophonist that I’ve witnessed in an alarmingly long time.” Richardson’s sideman work includes a spread of album appearances with Mwandishi great Billy Hart.
