There may not be the decades-distant echoes of Eric Dolphy lifting high over Hill Street to drift inexorably upwards from the Black Box on Saturday at Belfast arts festival Out to Lunch.

Not that it signifies much given the Lunch in mind is also a musical feast even if there is a certain jazz serendipity hanging inescapably in the air.

What’s in prospect instead this weekend at the sold-out afternoon show is connoisseur-quality vocals from a recently risen local star on the cusp of wider recognition beyond the close knit scene that has nurtured Dana Masters’ huge talent encouraging it to further flourish and win hearts and minds.

The afternoon concert is the latest chance to experience just what the buzz is all about as the US-born singer, as attuned to classic soul material, gospel and contemporary pop as she is to jazz standards, further hones her own original material in preparation for the release of a debut album.
