The death has been reported in Swedish media of the Swedish jazz icon Bengt-Arne Wallin who passed away on Monday. The trumpeter and composer-arranger was 89. His career in jazz stretched back to the 1950s.

Wallin was a former teacher of the pianist Esbjörn Svensson among a host of Swedish jazz luminaries to have emerged in the last few decades but is best known above all for his groundbreaking 1962 album Old Folklore In Swedish Modern, an album that fused modern jazz and Swedish folk music.
