A December release has now been confirmed for Anatta the new Alex Merritt quartet album on the F-IRE label.

The title draws from Buddhism, and features the saxophonist who grew up in Cambridge and went to music school at the Birmingham Conservatoire, in stellar company alongside pianist John Turville, double bassist Sam Lasserson and drummer Jeff Williams.

According to Merritt influences for the quartet range from Warne Marsh to John Coltrane and Joe Henderson on the jazz side, with Béla Bartók, Alban Berg and Henri Dutilleux on the classical. Look out for an album launch at the Vortex in London on 10 December.
