This year, definitely not so much a case of the Cinderella that never goes to the ball, the MOBOs are planning a special pre-MOBO award show to celebrate the UK’s finest talents in R&B, soul, jazz and gospel music.

Courtney Pine and Julia Biel (above) – two of this year's jazz act nominees – are to perform at the event next week which on paper looks a bit like the way the Grammys handles some specialist categories. Mica Paris, Omar, Dora Martin and Misha B are also in the line-up, along with rapper Faith Child and gospel singer Annastasia Baker.

The evening, to take place in west London next Tuesday night, will be hosted by US gospel music star Marvin Winans Jr.

The nominees for these categories, the winners of which are to be announced on the night, ahead of the main MOBOs in Leeds next month, are:
