Eska is among the nominees for this year’s Mercury prize. The singer was a previous participant in jazz promoter Serious’ Take 5 mentoring scheme, although her self-titled album points more in a folky psychedelic soul direction.
With the marginal exception of Eska there’s little of interest this year among those nominated of direct appeal to jazz fans... no not even a token jazz nominee as a few Twitter users were looking out for!
Surprised that I've already heard of most of this year's #MercuryPrize nominees. Seems more mainstream. Where's the token freeform jazz act?
