Another sad passing, reported by jazzradio.com, the cult vibist Dave Pike has died at the age of 77.

His career spanned some 50 years since his first emergence in the 1950s, later making his name with Herbie Mann in the early 1960s. Following a move to Europe the Detroit-born player formed the Dave Pike Set a band that melded soul-jazz, psychedelia and avant-garde music into a club-friendly mix that remains popular with jazz DJs and record collector alike to this day.
