Pulling all the threads together and shining a light on the lesser known A Love Supreme line-up recorded the day after the famed session that spawned the classic album – this time with Archie Shepp and Art Davis added – 6 November sees the release of the complete masters of A Love Supreme.

A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters is to include this alternate version, taken from reels from the personal collection of John Coltrane. The issue, Verve Music Group say in a press announcement today “brings together all existing recordings and written outlines for the first time to paint the most comprehensive and accurate picture of the A Love Supreme story.”

The original plans it turns out was for a nine-piece band, and this new release will for the first time feature all six takes of opening section ‘Acknowledgement.’  The release will come in a 2-CD and 3-CD version, the latter including the only recorded live version of the suite recorded in France and which was issued in 2002.
