I haven’t seen any reviews of Untold Stories so far. Maybe I’ve missed loads of them.

It’s been released for a month in the UK. But if not perhaps the absence is not so unusual given the paucity of jazz coverage out there in the general UK media a stark contrast to the sheer abundance of high quality new releases, a sign of health in the genre and niche consumer appetite for it rather than the neglectful/dismissive priorities of arts editors.

Released in the UK at the end of last month, and later this month in the US via the Motéma label, US-based 28-year-old Israeli pianist Maestro is still best known for his work with bassist Avishai Cohen (in the same remarkable trio as Mark Guiliana) although that’s increasingly distant now as his own imprimatur as a player asserts itself.

The trio Maestro – with Peruvian bassist Jorge Roeder and Israeli dummer Ziv Ravitz – have put out two earlier albums since coming together four years ago. There’s more on the making of Untold Stories above
