In addition to Duets – reviewed here before the death last month of pianist John Taylor – a new “family project” 2081, as it is described by John Taylor’s son Alex, is to be released this autumn.

John Taylor, Alex who sings and wrote the lyrics and his brother drummer Leo Taylor from alt.rock band The Invisible, appear on the new album with tuba player Oren Marshall (Pigfoot) completing the line-up. Tracks are listed as: Doozy 1, 2081, Empress, DMG, Deer on the Moon and Doozy 2. The album is to be issued by Italian label Camjazz for who Taylor had recorded in the past such albums as In Two Minds with a UK release date of 18 September. Partly inspired by a Kurt Vonnegut short story set in the year 2081, a world where inequality, by law, has become a thing of the past, some of the music featured was initially commissioned by Radio 3 for performance at the Cheltenham jazz festival.
