Singer/songwriter and cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson is to embark on a new crowdfunding campaign to record and release debut album Reuben and Ay.

The Londoner has already self-released EPs ‘Truthfully’ and ‘Black Panther.’

During her career to date Witter-Johnson has been nominated for a MOBO, became the only non-American to win amateur night at the Apollo theatre in Harlem and has collaborated, performed, toured and composed with a wide range of leading performers and orchestras including Nitin Sawhney, Courtney Pine, Anoushka Shankar, Hugh Masekela and the LSO. The cellist studied at the Manhattan School of Music in New York and last year was one of the artists filmed for groundbreaking new Neil Cowley-hosted TV series Jazz @ Metropolis.“Reuben” in the planned album title refers to a German-made cello that Ayanna (“Ay” in the title) has played since her school days.

Witter-Johnson takes part in September’s Kings Place festival and there’s more info on the album fundraising campaign here.
