The founder of A.F.O. Records (All for One), the first African American musician-owned record label, New Orleansian Harold Battiste, has died at the age of 83. He had been ill for some time.

As a saxophonist he was a sought after studio session player in the 1950s and 60s and played soprano sax on Sonny and Cher’s classic ‘I Got You Babe’. He also arranged ‘You Send Me’ for Sam Cooke and played piano on Cooke’s civil rights anthem ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ released in 1964 as a single and which then appeared on the album Ain’t That Good News.
