The end of June sees the release of the debut album of Cormac McCarthy, a pianist, composer and arranger from Cork in Ireland. His album Cottage Evolution, recorded at Lettercollum House Studio in West Cork last year, is to be issued by Lyte Records on 29 June.

On the album McCarthy, whose academic background includes his having completed a masters in jazz studies at DePaul University in the US, leads an ensemble featuring woodwind, trombone, strings and a rhythm section blending jazz (samples heard so far suggest a Brad Mehldau-like Highway Rider style), and Irish traditional music.

The album has already started to pick up radio play in Ireland including airtime on The Blue of the Night, RTÉ Lyric FM’s equivalent of Radio 3 show Late Junction.
