The Jazz For Labour concert at the Barbican featuring leading lights of the UK jazz scene including Courtney Pine above left pictured with singer Claire Martin and clarinettist Arun Ghosh is subtitled as a concert “for fairness and diversity.”

And no better sentiment with the election not far off for the jazz community to mass in support of the return of a Labour government after the worrying right-wing swing of recent years, the Tory and Lib Dem government valuing elitism, particularly the interests of big business and corporate greed, more than the issues that matter to most people.

Darius Brubeck, Liane Carroll, Gary Crosby, John Etheridge, Tim Garland, Arun Ghosh, Juliet Kelly, Soweto Kinch, Dave O’Higgins, Jay Phelps, Phil Robson, Ian Shaw, Andy Sheppard, Christine Tobin, Alex Webb and Kate Williams are also included in the line-up of this concert inspired by a Jazz for Obama concert held in New York during the 2012 presidential campaign.
