This is the Day to be released towards the end of March is the latest album from the cultish Giovanni Guidi Trio.

Two years on from City of Broken Dreams – the Enrico Rava pianist’s noirish Paul Bley-like debut for ECM – the high-flying Italian is joined once again by bassist Thomas Morgan heard recently on Gefion and by Portuguese drummer João Lobo.

Like the earlier ECM album the material has been mostly written by the pianist, with the additional elements this time around of standard ‘I’m Through with Love’ and Osvaldo Farrés’ ‘Quizás, quizás, quizás’ (aka ‘Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps’ associated with versions by Nat King Cole and Doris Day) also included, plus a piece by Lobo.
