Paris will be the host city of Jazz Day this year.

Organised by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) partnering with the Thelonious Monk Institute, with Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock championing the day globally, the day involves jazz events around the world and it is the fourth year Jazz Day has been celebrated. 2015 also marks the 70th anniversary of UNESCO. As part of Paris' involvement some 50 concerts and performances will take place in the city on 30 April.

The 2015 All-Star Global Concert at the Unesco headquarters in the city to be streamed live via the UNESCO, US department of state, and Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz websites. will feature pianist John Beasley once again as music director and includes Chinese pianist A Bu, Italian pianist Antonio Faraò and Herbie Hancock. Trumpeters Till Brönner, Ibrahim Maalouf, Hugh Masekela and Claudio Roditi; singers Dee Dee Bridgewater, Al Jarreau, Rudy Pérez and Dianne Reeves; saxophonists Igor Butman, Ravi Coltrane, Femi Kuti, Guillaume Perret and Wayne Shorter; bassists James Genus and Marcus Miller; guitarist Lee Ritenour; drummer Terri Lyne Carrington and harmonica player Grégoire Maret are also taking part the organisers have announced. Hancock in a statement commented: “On April 30th, there will be a worldwide celebration honouring jazz. Every single country on all seven continents will shine the spotlight on jazz for 24 hours straight, sharing the beauty, passion, and ethics of the music. Educators, visual artists, writers, philosophers, intellectuals, dancers, musicians of all ages and skill levels, photographers, filmmakers, videographers, bloggers and jazz enthusiasts will participate in Jazz Day by openly exchanging ideas through performances, education programmes, and other creative endeavours.”
