Blue Note have released details of a return to the heartland trio sound for Robert Glasper after the pianist’s successful two-time Grammy-winning diversion into R&B with vocals-flavoured Black Radio and its follow-up.

But it’s not until mid-June that Covered (The Robert Glasper Trio recorded live at Capitol Studios), is to be released.

Featuring bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Damion Reid it’s the Canvas and In My Element line-up going back to Glasper’s early days on the label featured on Covered.

The trio recorded the album at the Capitol studios in Hollywood towards the end of last year.

Tracks featured after the scene-setting introduction are: I Don’t Even Care (Robert Glasper/Macy Gray/Jean Grae); Reckoner (Radiohead from 2007’s In Rainbows); Barangrill (Joni Mitchell from 1972’s For The Roses); In Case You Forgot (Robert Glasper); So Beautiful (Musiq Soulchild from 2008’s On My Radio); The Worst (Jhené Aiko from 2013’s Sail Out); Good Morning (John Legend from 2008’s Evolver); 1940s song Stella By Starlight (Victor Young); Levels (Bilal, from 2010’s Airtight's Revenge); Got Over feat. Harry Belafonte (Robert Glasper/Harry Belafonte); and I’m Dying of Thirst (Kendrick Lamar, from 2012’s Good Kid, M.A.A.d City). SG
