Arve Henriksen returns for a Places of Worship-inspired Opera North gig.

Drawing on the 2013 Rune Grammofon album for material trumpeter Henriksen, lauded for his work with Supersilent, David Sylvian, Terje Rypdal, and Nils Petter Molvær, here in a series of tone poems and mood pieces located around religious buildings and ruins explores music that takes the idea of the “aura” of a place and runs with it. Adding field recording (birds twittering) and descant voice to Henriksen’s keening shakuhachi-inspired signature flute-like trumpet sound collaborators on the album included samplers Jan Bang and Erik Honoré, Lars Danielsson, the Stahlquartett, Eivind Aarset, Jon Balke, Ingar Zach and samples of work used include music by Christian Wallumrød, and the Norwegian Wind Ensemble.

Arve Henriksen above appears in Leeds with sampler Jan Bang at the Howard Assembly Room on 12 March. Ticket details can be found here
