Four dates for Vein are set for the spring, the piano trio hitting Cornwall, Grimsby, Newcastle, and Liverpool in late-April returning the following month for two more gigs this time joined by saxophonist Dave Liebman, the NEA Jazz Master guesting at London and Birmingham shows. Liebman also features on their new Unit Records album Jazz Talks.
Formed of twins pianist Michael Arbenz, a romantic soul with the sound of Oscar Peterson in his head and the chops to stand up to scrutiny, and Arbenz’s drummer brother Florian joined by the George Mraz-like bassist Thomas Lähns, Vein are part of a normcore wave of Swiss piano trios that includes Rusconi, Colin Vallon, and Christoph Stiefel’s Inner Language trio.
