It’s a 9 February UK release for From Darkness the new Avishai Cohen trio album.

To be issued on Raz Daz details are sketchy but tracks are known to be ‘Beyond’, ‘Abie’, ‘Halelyah’, ‘C#’, ‘Ballad for an Unborn’, ‘From Darkness’, ‘Lost Tribe’, ‘Almah’, ‘Signature’, ‘Amethyst’, and ‘Smile’. A teaser video the label has issued is above.

Almah, the eighth track was the title track of Cohen’s last album, an expansive with-strings affair, released in February 2014 which came after Duende from two years before, the latter finding the Israeli jazz star (who has proved hugely influential on significant new bands such as Phronesis) performing as a duo with pianist Nitai Hershkovits. This new album beefs the duo up to a trio – heartland Cohen territory – with Hershkovits again involved joined by drummer Daniel Dor who performed with Cohen at Ronnie Scott’s last year.
