Ruby Turner, Marius Neset, and Brian Kellock are some of the headline names scheduled to appear at next month’s Fife jazz festival, the full programme of which has just been published.

Gospel, soul and jazz-influenced singer Turner, whose latest album All That I Am released in October covered such soul classics as ‘The Dark End of the Street’ the jazz element including a pared-down vocal and piano-accompanied treatment of Rodgers and Hart’s ‘I Didn’t Know What Time It Was,’ appears at the Byre theatre in St Andrews on opening night.

Saxophonist Neset, appearing in duo with Neck of the Woods playing partner tuba player Daniel Herskedal, has a new quintet album Pinball out ahead of Fife. He first emerged with his People Are Machines and Golden Xplosion bands and was spotted early on by Django Bates who helped champion his career beyond his native Norway.

Kellock, Scotland’s best known jazz pianist internationally, released Whispering of the Stars with saxophonist Tommy Smith in 2014, an album full of highly romantic ballads, opening with ‘You Must Believe in Spring’ reaching its smoochy high water mark on Duke Ellington’s beautiful vehicle for Johnny Hodges, ‘Warm Valley.’ Fife runs from 6-8 February, and the full line-up can be found here.
