A new album by Verneri Pohjola is to be released early in 2015. 

Titled Bullhorn, mainly a quartet affair, the 36-year-old Helsinki-based trumpeter joined by the core group of pianist Aki Rissanen, bassist Antti Lötjönen and Teppo Mäkynen both the latter of retro hard bop Five Corners Quintet renown. Lötjönen, like Pohjola, also made his name with Finland’s pre-eminent acoustic progressive band of the last decade, Ilmiliekki Quartet. The album is to be Pohjola’s third as a leader, and was recorded in Finland in August. Bullhorn is to be released on 9 February by the Berkshire-based independent jazz label Edition records.
