Olivia Trummer

Dublin jazz club JJ Smyth’s is to host the launch of pianist-singer/songwriter Olivia Trummer’s latest album Fly Now.

A five-time recipient of the German young musician of the year award Trummer appeared at last year’s tastemaking Euroband fest 12 Points before touring in Ireland last year, and at JJ’s on Sunday 16 November will be appearing with bassist Dave Redmond and drummer Kevin Brady who will also join her at the National Concert Hall two days later opening for Charles Lloyd.

On Fly Now Trummer, whose approach and sound resembles Gretchen Parlato’s and Emilia Mårtensson’s to an extent, is joined by James Farm bassist Matt Penman and Monty Alexander drummer Obed Calvaire, augmented by guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel on ‘Sharing My Heart’, ‘All is Well’, and the second part of the title track, ‘Fly Now – Reflection.’
