Seminal jazz-rock band Nucleus joined by yodelling jazz singer Leon Thomas – known for his work with Pharoah Sanders, especially ‘The Creator Has a Masterplan’ – encountered performing live at the Montreux Jazz Festival on 20 June 1970 is to be released next month on a double vinyl album by King’s Cross label Gearbox in a first official non-bootleg release.

Live 1970 is out on 25 November. On it trumpeter/flugelhornist Ian Carr (1933-2009) and singer Thomas (1937-1999) are joined by Karl Jenkins (oboe/piano), Brian Smith (soprano/tenor saxophones & flute), Chris Spedding (guitar), Jeff Clyne (bass) (1937-2009), and John Marshall (drums). All bar Thomas recorded Elastic Rock in London studio Trident earlier in 1970.
