Here's some very recent live footage of the Phil Robson organ trio, guitarist Robson with Ross Stanley on organ, and Gene Calderazzo, drums, recorded at the Wakefield Sports Club on Friday night. The trio moved on to Wellingborough to play the following evening.

This sort of insight into live jazz available just days after the event would have been impossible not too long ago, it’s too easy to forget. And even though it has been technically possible for some years to video a gig like this the web is littered with mostly throwaway live clips, grab-and-run fan snippets that usually star the often glimpsed tribe of Zelig-like tall guys who relentlessly roam performance venues up and down the country just to stand in the way. Maybe they are the same people who insist that venues dim the lights to the much-favoured “Stygian gloom” default setting, who knows. So thank you Wakefield Jazz for allowing the band to be seen and heard.

Robson is back in Wakefield soon performing with Christine Tobin on 26 September. Partisans’ latest album Swamp is released tomorrow
