The Times of India has reported the passing of U [Uppalapu] Srinivas who died in Chennai yesterday aged 45. The Carnatic mandolinist had undergone a liver transplant but while recovering well had later suffered complications. Indian prime minister Narendra Modi was among those paying tribute to the former child prodigy.

Srinivas’ playing credits included appearances notably with John McLaughlin, in Remember Shakti (see video below), and who tweeted that Srinivas “lives on forever in my heart.”
